WINSTON McEWAN
MBChB FRACS (Plastics) - Plastic, Reconstructive Hand Surgeon
Winston McEwan is a fully trained and qualified plastic surgeon in Hamilton. He has a wide experience in reconstructive, cosmetic and hand surgery.
Originally from the South Island, Winston graduated from Otago Medical school in 1996. Most of WInston's specialist plastic surgical training was carried out in Christchurch and Middlemore hospitals and he received his FRACS (Plastics) in 2005 (Fellowship Royal Australasian College of Surgeons) also gaining the prestigous Mentor Prize for aesthetic surgery.
After undertaking further postgraduate training in Perth (breast surgery, reconstruction and microsurgery) then spent 6 months in Zambia working in more general surgery. Winston returned to NZ in 2007, commencing work at Waikato Hospital . Soon after returning Winston commenced private practice, initially with Patrick Beehan in Thackeray St before he opened surgical consulting rooms opposite Waikato Hospital in Horne St. In July 2018 Winston's Practice moved to 66 Alison St, located in the Alison Surgical Centre Building.
Winston was the head of department for plastic surgery at Waikato Hospital from January 2010 to November 2012 and was the Waikato supervisor for plastic surgery registrar training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons from 2010-2017.
He has a particular interest in helping in healthcare in developing countries and spent all of 2009 doing voluntary work in Zambia / Africa at various Mission Hospitals.
Winston is married with 6 children.
